Law Clerk IImmediate need for Law Clerk I for ongoing document review projects assisting large scale white-collar fraud investigations in support of CACI's contract with the DOJ, Criminal Division. The Criminal Division's Fraud Section plays a unique and essential role in the Department's fight against sophisticated economic crime. The Section is a front-line litigating unit that acts as a rapid response team, investigating and prosecuting complex white-collar crime cases throughout the country. The Section is uniquely qualified to act in that capacity based on its vast experience with sophisticated fraud schemes; its expertise in managing complex and multi-district litigation; and its ability to deploy resources effectively to address law enforcement priorities and respond to geographically shifting crime problems. These capabilities are an essential complement to the efforts of the United States Attorneys' Offices to combat white-collar crime. The Section frequently coordinates interagency and multi-district investigations and international enforcement efforts. The investigations are complex and often result in the collection of millions of pages of documents per case.Because many of the FRD Section cases' targets and subjects involve the use of private law firms, the Section's investigations are frequently confronted with issues concerning the applicability of attorney-client privilege and work product doctrine over materials obtained during the investigations. These privilege issues can be complex and require a review of these materials through a "filter review" process, whereby attorneys who are walled off from the investigation team review potentially privileged materials to determine whether a valid claim of privilege may be asserted. The team reviews potentially privileged materials to determine whether a valid claim of attorney-client privilege or work product may be asserted, and to determine whether any exceptions to the privilege may apply.Responsibilities:Assist with document review using Relativity, Cellebrite, and Axiom review platformsExamine protocol materials, warrants, and other legal work product and filings specific to each matterReview and identify potentially privileged material containing attorney work product, attorney-client privilege, spousal privilege, and common interest privilege, as applicableWork closely with Fraud Section Special Matters Unit attorneys to ensure potentially privileged documents are properly quarantined from the investigation and prosecution teamsCommunicate key issues and notable documents with teamQualifications:Required:Law DegreeSound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources (including Westlaw and Lexis)Excellent written and oral communication skillsHands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures, resources, and databases (including Relativity)Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOJ MBI clearanceDesired:Foreign language fluency desiredLeadership experience in small team environments preferredWhat You Can Expect:A culture of integrity. At CACI, we place character and innovation at the center of everything we do.
