Senior Microbiologist

Senior Microbiologist South Dakota State University (SDState) is currently seeking a Senior Microbiologist to join our team! This position will support our Serology lab with complex serological testing. The South Dakota Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Laboratory is a full service, AAVLD accredited diagnostic laboratory that conducts approximately 500,000 veterinary diagnostic tests a year. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Job Responsibilities: The primary purpose of this position is to perform, analyze and monitor diagnostic serology testing for the detection of antibodies against various animal infectious disease agents; coordinate quality assurance activities; and assist with the development, validation and implementation of new diagnostic assays. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of: Strong theoretical understanding of microbiology, virology, immunology, and molecular biology. Food animal diagnostic serology experience highly desired. Quality control assurance measures. Skill & Ability to: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Problem-solve. Develop, write, and edit standard operating procedure (SOP) protocols. Develop and implement new or improved diagnostic assays. Work safely with laboratory chemicals, materials, and specimens. Practice strong attention to detail. Work independently and as part of a team. Prioritize work to meet competing deadlines. Comments: Bachelor or master's degree in microbiology/immunology or related area and related work preferred.
