Patient Service Specialist PRN, Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute

Job Summary Provides service to patients either pre‑appointment, during, or post‑appointment with occasional guidance. Responsibilities may include inbound/outbound telephone calls, cash management, appointment scheduling, insurance updates, patient check‑in/out, and coordinating complex schedules or third‑party care. Shift 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM, three days per week. Key Responsibilities Conduct patient check‑in and check‑out. Coordinate any follow‑up appointments or procedures required for the patient. Schedule appointments, procedures, or surgery through clinical communication or direct request. Provide positive first impressions utilizing customer service skills. Work with patients and/or outside facilities to ensure all administrative tasks, including referrals, pre‑certs, clinical records, orders, and consults, have been received and are ready prior to patient visit. Technical Capabilities Surgery Scheduling (Fundamental Awareness): Coordinate and schedule surgeries within hospital computer systems. Customer Service (Intermediate): Anticipate and meet customer needs while remaining responsive. Patient Scheduling (Novice): Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and office visits with various hospital or clinic computer systems. Patient Documentation (Novice): Receive and record patient information. Medical Terminology & Documentation (Novice): Comprehend medical terminology and documentation in an office or surgical setting. Position Qualifications Work Experience: 1 year. Education: High School Diploma or GED. Certifications: None specified.
