Job Title: Network Field Engineer (Junior-Mid Level) - only Chicago or IL Locals

Location: Within 60-90 minutes of Peoria, IL (travel across Southern & Central Illinois: Bloomington, Normal, Pekin, Galesburg, Morton, Washington, Canton, Pontiac)

Duration: 6-12 Months Contract-to-Hire (CTH)

Openings: 3-4 positions

Travel Requirement: ~90% (mileage, meals, and travel expenses reimbursed; rental cars provided for trips over 100 miles)

Role Overview


We are seeking multiple Junior to Mid-Level Network Field Engineers with hands-on experience installing and configuring networking equipment across client sites. The ideal candidate will be responsible for traveling to customer locations, setting up routers, switches, wireless systems, and voice solutions, ensuring proper documentation, and moving on to the next scheduled site.


This is a field-based role requiring strong technical knowledge, flexibility, and excellent communication skills to support diverse networking projects across Central and Southern Illinois.

Key Responsibilities

• Travel to client sites across Illinois to install, configure, and troubleshoot network equipment (routers, switches, LAN/WAN, wireless access points, phone systems, etc.).
• Support LAN, WAN, Voice, and Wireless projects .
• Document all installation, configuration, and troubleshooting steps clearly and accurately.
• Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure smooth deployments.
• Use Microsoft Office and web-based tools (Outlook, Teams, Excel) for reporting and communication.
• Provide customer service-focused support and resolve technical issues onsite.
• Be available after hours or weekends for critical issues or urgent coverage as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in IT/Networking or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 2+ years of experience in field installation and configuration of network hardware (routers, switches, wireless, voice systems).
• Strong understanding of LAN/WAN and wireless networking concepts .
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel) and web-based tools.
• Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle (mandatory).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and troubleshooting skills .
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a customer-service mindset.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent travel.
