This region caters to approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Working under the direct guidance of a Radiologist, the CT Technologist conducts examinations at a technical level that does not necessitate direct oversight on technical specifics. This role demands advanced knowledge in medical imaging, particularly in cross-sectional anatomy. A thorough understanding of all diagnostic CT exams and interventional procedures is essential. The technologist employs independent judgment, creativity, and expertise to capture high-quality diagnostic images and assists with interventional procedures.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Comprehensive knowledge of CT exams and interventional procedures is required, with the ability to perform exams autonomously.
- A solid understanding of physics principles, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile techniques, and radiation safety as they pertain to CT practice is necessary.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are essential.
- The role requires collaboration with department staff, including participation in rotational call and holiday shifts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies1. Ensures that the patient’s clinical data aligns with the type of exam ordered. Follows up with the physician’s office if the exam appears questionable based on the patient's clinical history.
2. Assists the Radiologist during interventional procedures, coordinating the patient’s medical needs with the Radiology Nurse, and ensuring the procedure room is adequately equipped and cleaned afterward.
3. Screens female patients of childbearing age for potential pregnancy.
4. Exhibits proficiency in IV insertion.
5. Records examinations in the radiology system to ensure accurate billing.
6. Manages one’s own schedule independently, documenting patient flow while being attentive to patient care and the needs of colleagues. Remains adaptable to accommodate emergency calls and requests for inpatient procedures, assisting in patient transportation when necessary.
7. Demonstrates proficiency in conducting all types of CT scans.
8. Processes CT exams using the teleradiology system during off-hours, troubleshooting issues and contacting appropriate support when necessary.
9. Selects appropriate protocols for patients based on their age and size.
10. Accurately completes patient procedure documentation in the Meditech system, ensuring all items are correctly charged to the patient’s hospital bill. Submits properly documented and labeled exams to the Radiologist for review and discussion, checking each exam for technical accuracy.
11. Assists in transporting patients as needed.
12. Conducts quality assurance in line with the American College of Radiology guidelines for CT.
13. Reviews post-procedure instructions with patients (e.g., hydration, when results will be available).
14. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment such as scanners, workstations, and printers.
15. Responds independently on a call basis to perform procedures, traveling to affiliated or contracted locations as required.
16. Collaborates effectively and embodies Core Values consistently to achieve all tasks as a member of the Medical Imaging Team.
QualificationsEDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent; completion of an ARRT accredited Radiological Technology program is mandatory.
- Registration and certification with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, along with licensure in the State of Connecticut, are required.
- Must stay current with ARRT continuing education requirements and maintain an active ARRT certification.
- Advanced certification from the ARRT in Computerized Tomography is expected within one year of hire.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
