Position Summary The Food Service Worker plays a vital role at TMAT in delivering nutritious meals and fostering student well-being. This hands-on position supports breakfast, lunch, and snack programs aligned with Ohio's school nutrition standards, while promoting health awareness and environmental stewardship within our maritime-themed learning environment.

Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and serve balanced meals compliant with USDA and Ohio School Nutrition Program requirements, including the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Maintain exemplary food safety and sanitation practices, including personal hygiene, equipment cleaning, and work surface sanitizing. Assist in menu adaptation or commentary to integrate local, sustainable, or regionally themed (e.g., Great Lakes–sourced) ingredients. Accurately count, record, and report meal participation for reimbursement. Operate point-of-sale systems or manual meal counting during service periods. Provide friendly, professional service to students and staff, supporting a positive cafeteria environment. Comply with food allergy, dietary restriction protocols, and student accommodation plans. Participate in wellness and nutrition initiatives, such as harbor-themed health fairs or "taste of the Lakes" tasting events. Assist with inventory management, delivery unpacking, and storage tasks.

Desired Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Demonstrated ability to follow food preparation guidelines and maintain kitchen sanitation standards. Clear understanding and willingness to comply with USDA meal pattern and Ohio school nutrition rules. Knowledge of Ohio's Person-in-Charge (Level 1) food safety certification or higher. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication skills. Completion of Ohio BCI and FBI background checks as required under Ohio school employment laws. Preferred Experience in school-based or large-scale foodservice operations, ideally within K–12 institutions. Ohio Manager (Level 2) Food Protection Certification for broader supervisory responsibilities. Prior use of point-of-sale systems or computerized meal tracking. Certification in child nutrition or school food service management. Enthusiasm for integrating nutrition education, local food sourcing, food allergy awareness, or maritime themes into service. Experience working with diverse student populations or in immersive educational environments.

Physical Demands Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and frequent movement across kitchen and cafeteria areas. Regular lifting and carrying of food items, trays, and supplies (typically up to 40 lbs). Tolerant of hot, cold, and humid kitchen environments; exposure to food service equipment (e.g., ovens, steamers, slicers). Frequent use of food service equipment, dishwashers, ovens, and POS systems. Capability to move quickly and safely during busy meal service windows. Must maintain hygiene, sanitation, and food safety protocols consistently, ensuring student health and cleanliness.
