RN PREOP PACU PAT (PRN)

The PAT/ PreOp/ PACU RN is responsible for handling inbound pre‑operative patients to ensure they receive quality pre‑operative screening for surgical procedures and post‑anesthetic care for patients emerging from anesthesia. The role includes guiding patients to consciousness, assisting with personal needs in the first few hours after surgery, and performing medication administration duties critical to patient recovery.

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee intake during pre‑admission testing, performing an initial physical assessment and collecting medical history. Conduct tests requested by the surgeon, such as an EKG, and draw blood for lab work. Help patients understand the pre‑operative process, answer questions, and discuss post‑surgical care plans. Manage patient admission to the pre‑operative department, ensuring accurate identification wristbands and operative consent documentation. Assess patient health status in pre‑op, record vital statistics, and initiate IVs. Evaluate patients after surgery; maintain vitals within normal ranges and log findings in patient files. Provide patient comfort, manage IVs, and develop individualized care plans. Monitor for condition changes, report to physicians, and educate patients and families on procedures and medications. Determine when patients are ready for room transfer and perform intervention duties during post‑operative emergencies. Record sedation levels and body temperature, manage blood and fluid transfusions, draw specimens, and maintain a clean, sanitized environment. Change bandages and dress surgical wounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current and active CPR certification. Valid nursing license in good standing with the state licensing board. 2‑3 years’ experience in critical‑care nursing required. Cognitive skills related to the position.
