Staff Accountant

Location: Englewood, NJ

Work Arrangement: Hybrid / Client Site Approximately 3 Days per Week

Position Overview

The Staff Accountant is a reliable, detail-oriented self-starter who takes ownership of keeping client accounting records accurate and current, responding to day-to-day accounting needs, and supporting smooth year-end and tax processes.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work, client interaction, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide general accounting and bookkeeping support for firm clients.
\n
• Work on-site at a client’s Englewood, NJ office approximately three days per week , with the schedule varying based on client needs.
\n
• Serve as a day-to-day accounting resource for the client and respond to routine accounting questions.
\n
• Perform monthly QuickBooks reviews, clean-up, and account maintenance , including review of invoices and checkbook activity.
\n
• Post and code client transactions to the appropriate general ledger accounts and classes using invoices, bank records, and other supporting documentation.
\n
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
\n
• Maintain the general ledger by preparing, reviewing, and adjusting journal entries as needed.
\n
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including:
\n
• Balance sheets
\n
• Income statements
\n
• Cash flow reports
\n
• Reconcile general ledger balances, including prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, fixed assets, and other key accounts against supporting schedules and source documents.
\n
• Identify discrepancies or unusual items and communicate them to the engagement manager.
\n
• Support year-end procedures, including:
\n
• Cash tie-outs
\n
• Accounts payable searches
\n
• Accounts receivable review
\n
• 1099 preparation
\n
• Assist with organizing and preparing client files for tax preparation.
\n
• Help respond to tax notices and review related correspondence.
\n
• Maintain follow-up lists to ensure client requests, outstanding items, and open questions are tracked and resolved in a timely manner.
\n
• Build strong relationships with clients and internal engagement teams through responsive and proactive communication.
\n
• Manage time effectively between on-site client responsibilities and other assigned engagements while adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.

Qualifications

\n
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
\n
• Hands-on QuickBooks experience required .
\n
• Experience with data imports preferred.
\n
• Yardi experience is a plus.
\n
• Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and general ledger accounting.
\n
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
\n
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
\n
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
\n
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
\n
• Highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
\n
• Ability to complete assignments accurately within established budgets and deadlines.
\n
• Ability to travel to the client’s Englewood, NJ office up to three days per week .
