Senior Social Worker

The Senior Social Worker is a member of the Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service Line of the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System (NAVAHCS), located at the NAVAHCS Prescott, Arizona Domiciliary and serves as a clinical expert in the area of Serious Mental Illness or Substance Abuse. The incumbent's primary responsibilities are to provide expert clinical services in mental health with an expertise in serious mental illness, to include PTSD, or Substance Abuse. Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provides expert mental health assessment and psychotherapy services for Veterans.
• Participates in direct Veteran, family and Caregiver assessment and treatment.
• Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical guidelines and protocols to ensure maximal access to and utilization of services at the Domiciliary.
• Advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout NAVAHCS and other relevant VA facilities regarding psychiatrically and medically complex and/or high-risk Veterans.
• Professional judgment, including the knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior, is an inherent competency applied in daily interactions with clients.
• Direct treatment includes providing crisis assessment, treatment and dispositioning of high-risk Veterans and their families.
• Provides referrals to VA mental health, medical and other services (e.g., Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, Homeless programs, Inpatient psychiatric treatment, Home Based Primary Care), as well as other community resources, services, and programs.
• Serves as a consultant for information on negotiating the complex processes Veterans, their families and caregivers encounter when interacting with government and community agencies.
• Maintain and share with colleagues a knowledgebase of current theory and evidence-based treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinic seminars and teleconferences, and materials distributed through VA and private sector sources.
• Assist in data monitoring to measure the efficacy of the mental health services to the Domiciliary and in reporting this information to MHBS, NAVAHCS and VACO.
• Evaluates program progress and outcomes and utilizes data to continuously modify and improve mental health services to Veterans within NAVAHCS.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
