Federal Reserve Bank (NY)

Position: Economist Location: US-MA-Boston (office presence required at least 4 days per week). Salary: $204,900 – $307,300. Responsibilities Advise the Bank president and Board of Directors on monetary policy issues, especially those related to labor markets, inflation dynamics, and public finance. Keep abreast of monetary policy‑relevant issues and address them using state‑of‑the‑art professional techniques. Produce working papers for publication in high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals and write accessible articles on timely policy questions for department publications. Present current research at meetings, conferences, and workshops held by the Bank and by academic, business, and international organizations. Help organize workshops, seminars, and conferences as requested. Participate in the Bank’s outreach program; deliver talks to the general public on Federal Reserve policy and/or research topics. Assist in staff recruitment by reviewing curriculum vitae and dissertation abstracts, conducting interviews, reading and commenting on candidates’ working papers, and speaking with references. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. degree in economics. Ability to conduct policy‑relevant research at the frontier of macroeconomics, focused on labor economics, inflation dynamics, and public finance, demonstrated by at least three research papers (published or completed working papers) and at least one example of current work in progress. State‑of‑the‑art quantitative and econometric skills demonstrated by academic coursework, papers, or prior experience. Proficiency in working with large‑scale datasets demonstrated in working papers or prior experience. Willingness to travel domestically and globally, estimated 6‑10 trips per year. The offer is contingent upon successfully passing a two‑phase security screening. The first phase includes a satisfactory completion of a physical examination (including a drug screening), reference checks, and a security investigation consisting of credit and criminal history checks. The second phase may include additional risk‑based security screening determined by the risk rating of the position. Depending on the sensitivity of the position, this phase may include, and is not limited to, citizenship status verification, and personal interviews with the candidate, references, and prior employers.
