DEPARTMENT: SPN - ORTHOPEDICS

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 8-5 M-Th; 8-12 Fri

POSITION SUMMARY


The Orthopedic Clinic Technician functions as an integral member of the orthopedic care team to promote efficient patient flow, high-quality care, and positive patient outcomes. The Orthopedic Clinic Technician provides clinical and technical support to the orthopedic physicians and advanced practice providers in the evaluation, treatment, and care of musculoskeletal conditions. This role assists with patient care procedures including casting, splinting, brace application, durable medical equipment (DME) fitting, wound care, and patient education while ensuring compliance with safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.


EDUCATION

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

EXPERIENCE

• One (1) year experience in health care setting is required.
• Experience in orthopedic or traction area is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrates ability to set priorities and utilize problem-solving skills.
• Flexible in work schedule, assignments and workload.
• Ability to read and interpret policies/procedures, standards and clinical protocols.
• Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patient/family units and other staff members.
• Ability to operate patient information systems.
• Knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, orthopedic terminology, and fracture management principles.
• Proficiency in application and removal of casts, splints, and immobilization devices.
• Ability to assist providers with fracture care, joint procedures, wound care, and minor orthopedic procedures.
• Competence in fitting and instructing patients on the proper use of orthopedic braces and durable medical equipment (DME).
• Ability to maintain efficient patient flow in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Ability to follow clinical protocols and work within the scope of practice defined by the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
Works primarily in clinic setting, consistent shift and department. Requires moderate to frequent lifting, (excess of 50 lbs), bending, and assisting in same using correct body mechanics. Likely to be exposed to blood and body fluids, including infectious diseases, on a daily basis. Requires extensive walking and standing during shift.
