Cashier
Responsible for working a shift both accurately and efficiently, within company policy, to ensure that the shift contributes to increased profitability of the store. Receive and disburse money in establishments other than financial institutions. Usually involves use of electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment. Often involved in processing credit or debit card transactions and validating checks.
Essential functions include counting money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that prices of goods and services are established using cash. Stock shelves, and hang tags. Monitor checkout stations to ensure that they have adequate cash available and that they are staffed. Accurately record all markups, markdowns, spoilage and store use of merchandise according to company guidelines. Advise Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager of any personnel situations or policy violations. Advise any other store cashier with problems concerning store operations to take with store manager. Follow company policy by maintaining a low cash drawer and utilizing the safe, as instructed by store. Complete shift-checkout report at appropriate times as instructed by store manager and/or assistant. Follow correct vendor check-in procedures, within company guidelines and as instructed by store. Perform a variety of cleaning duties such as cleaning front windows, around check stands, and clean out.
Position qualifications include accountability, accurate, analytical skills, communication, oral and written, customer oriented, decision making, detail oriented, enthusiastic, friendly, honesty/integrity, interpersonal, organized, patience, relationship building, reliability, responsible, tactful, team building, time management, tolerance, and working under pressure. Education is less than high school education. Experience is no prior experience necessary. Skills and abilities include computer skills, general, and other requirements such as having access to a phone at all times, able to read and understand operating instructions for equipment in the store such as electronic cash register, able to operate a cash register for up to 8 hours or longer, able to lift 25 pounds at least once during shift and have good oral communication skills. Must be able to perform basic math calculations in order to make change, complete shift reports and account for a variety of products during vendor check in.
Physical demands include physical abilities to lift/carry, stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, crawl, squat or kneel, bend, push/pull. Other physical requirements include vision (near, distance, depth perception), sense of sound (ability to hear telephone ring and any emergency alarm), sense of smell, sense of touch, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (agree to wear back belt when lifting and handling heavy objects).
