Municipal Associate

Job Description Job Description Direct Counsel is seeking a Municipal Associate to join a respected and growing public law practice in San Diego. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 2–4 years of experience interested in working with cities, counties, special districts, and other public agencies throughout California. The ideal candidate will have experience with municipal or public agency law and possess strong writing, analytical, research, and drafting skills. Candidates should be proactive, collaborative, and comfortable managing matters independently while communicating directly with public officials and agency staff. Responsibilities Review and draft agreements, including municipal and public agency contracts Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on municipal law issues Assist with matters involving public contracting, procurement, and regulatory compliance Support attorneys with transactional and advisory matters for public agency clients Communicate effectively with clients, public officials, and colleagues Qualifications 2–4 years of experience in municipal law, public agency law, or related practice areas Excellent academic credentials and strong communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments effectively California Bar admission required Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $150,000 – $175,000 Annual performance-based and billable hours bonuses Hybrid work arrangement Reasonable billable hour expectations Competitive health benefits and 401(k) with partial match Strong mentorship and long-term growth opportunities This role offers meaningful client interaction, sophisticated public law work, and a collaborative environment focused on professional development and work-life balance.
