Nurse 1 (Registered Nurse)

Position Overview

Registered Nurse position at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Pickaway Correctional Institution.

Responsibilities

• Administer medication (oral, intramuscular, and intravenous) and monitor patient medication compliance.
• Perform treatments and assist or lead nurse’s sick calls and doctor’s sick calls.
• Provide nursing management for chronic care clinics.
• Respond to emergencies, providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Perform subjective and objective assessments of patients and collect vital signs, documenting all findings.
• Collect urine or other bodily fluid specimens.
• Prepare patients for release or transfer to other facilities, reviewing care, transfer, or release summaries.
• Ensure discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services.
• Participate in work-related and institutional training exercises.
• Assist other healthcare staff and investigate and document problem areas.
• Review shift reports from preceding shifts and assist physicians with medical procedures.
• Assume duties of other nurses during absences.
• Counsel and educate patients regarding healthcare maintenance and disease prevention.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and provide training and direction to new and agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and hospital aides.
• Serve as a resource for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters.
• Provide orientation and training for new healthcare personnel at the direction of the Nursing Supervisor.
• Act as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of the HCA, QIC, medical director, or advanced level provider staff.
• Participate in group programming and health and wellness initiatives.
• Perform administrative duties as indicated, including scheduling multidisciplinary team meetings and assuming shift charge duties as assigned.
• Assist with inventory and ordering of medical supplies and ancillary staff support to ensure patient care needs are met.

Qualifications

• Current registered professional nurse license in the state of Ohio.
• Experience in urgent and emergency care, basic medical procedures, and medical charting.
• Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, teamwork, cultural awareness, and problem‑solving skills.

Work Details

• Full‑time position.
• Starting pay approximately \$92,000, based on location/shift assignments.
• Location: Pickaway Correctional Institution, Pickaway County, Ohio.
