Internal Driver

Position Overview: The CDL A Internal Driver plays a vital role in daily operations by safely and efficiently moving trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard and between company facilities. The Internal Driver ensures trailers are properly positioned for loading and unloading, conducts equipment checks, and supports the logistics team in maintaining a smooth and organized flow of materials. This individual reports to the Transportation Manager and works closely with Dispatchers, Drivers, and Operations to maintain safety, accuracy, and productivity. Summary of Responsibilities:
• Move and spot trailers, roll-offs, and containers within the yard to designated locations for loading, unloading, and staging
• Ensure trailers are positioned safely and correctly at docks, scales, and storage areas
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on trucks, trailers, and yard equipment; report any mechanical or safety issues immediately
• Collaborate closely with dispatchers and yard personnel to coordinate equipment movements and maintain operational flow
• Weigh and document all inbound and outbound materials entering or leaving the facility
• Maintain clean and organized yard conditions, ensuring safety zones and travel paths remain clear
• Follow all company safety protocols, DOT regulations, and site-specific policies for vehicle movement and material handling
• Assist drivers with trailer hookups, equipment checks, and proper load securement as needed
• Complete all required paperwork and digital logs accurately and in a timely manner
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the transportation and yard operations teams Desired Characteristics:
• Valid CDL Class A license
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating commercial or heavy equipment vehicles
• Knowledge of basic vehicle safety, inspection, and preventive maintenance procedures
• Strong situational awareness and ability to safely maneuver equipment in confined or high-traffic areas
• Effective communication skills for coordination with Dispatch and Operations teams
• Reliable attendance, safety-conscious mindset, and ability to work both independently and as a team.
• Experience in recycling, logistics, or material handling operations a plus Physical and Environmental Requirements:
• Must be able to routinely lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. (may request assistance or "team lift" for heavier items)
• Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles, trailers, or equipment safely
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise, or precipitation)
• Must be able to perform repetitive work and remain alert during extended periods of equipment operation Minimum Safety Training Requirements:
• Basic on-the-job training that satisfies the Primary Objectives of the specific position (as noted above)
