Job Title Financial Aid Counselor Location Kennesaw, Georgia (Primary location for job responsibilities). Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060. Job Summary Responsible for processing financial aid for students by reviewing documents, evaluating eligibility and awarding various types of federal and state financial aid. Responsible for meeting with students and families to explain the financial aid process and answer questions regarding financial aid awards and required documents. Responsibilities Provide assistance to students and parents/guardians who are seeking and/or receiving financial aid. Advise students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, available financial aid programs, educational costs, and financial management strategies, including loans, financing options, and other financial aid related matters. Counsel students and parents/guardians regarding financing an education at the University. Review student applications for accuracy and completeness. Ensure compliance with laws and regulations regarding financial aid. Respond to inquiries, research, and resolve issues related to transactions. Research and assist with issue resolution related to federal and state systems. Maintain appropriate documentation via data entry system (Campus Logic, NOLIJ, Banner, etc.). Participate in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that impact the efficiency and quality of services provided. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Required Experience : On‑the‑job training provided. Additional Preferred Qualifications : Working and tested knowledge of Banner (Ellucian) preferred. Preferred Educational Qualifications : An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field. Preferred Experience : Previous Financial Aid Office experience preferred. Previous Customer Service Experience Preferred: Experience working with student populations preferred. Salary & Benefits The salary range for this role begins at $19.60 per hour. Offers are based on relevant experience. Abilities Able to deal with multiple tasks or projects at one time and prioritize based on importance. Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of financial aid at the federal, state and institutional levels. Working knowledge of and abides by the regulations of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended (HEA). Understanding of CPS, EDE, NSLDS, COD, Surfer. Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to financial aid; attends seminars, conferences, workshops and other training sessions. Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills. Strong conflict management and resolution skills – specifically the ability to diffuse difficult, angry, or emotional situations with individuals. Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, BANNER, NolijWeb, etc.). Strong attention to detail and follow‑up skills. Strong customer service skills and phone/email etiquette. Background Check Credit Report Standard Enhanced Education Per the University System of Georgia background check policy, all final candidates will be required to consent to a criminal background investigation.
