Summary of the position: The Mechanical Engineer - Sustaining Engineering is responsible for supporting existing products throughout their lifecycle by resolving production, supplier, and field issues; driving product quality, reliability, and cost improvements; and supporting new product introductions. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot technical issues, implement engineering changes, improve manufacturability, and ensure products meet customer, quality, and business objectives. Duties and responsibilities: Support existing products by resolving production, test cell, supplier, field, and customer issues to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency. Provide timely engineering support to Manufacturing, Quality, Customer Service, Procurement, and Supply Chain by resolving technical issues, conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and minimizing production downtime. Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining product performance, quality, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, and engineering changes, ensuring accuracy, configuration control, and timely implementation. Support sourcing initiatives by evaluating the technical feasibility of new components, alternate suppliers, and engineering changes. Represent Sustaining Engineering on New Product Development (NPD) projects by participating in design reviews, component selection, manufacturability assessments, and successful product launches. Manage assigned projects and engineering activities by meeting deadlines, communicating project status, and escalating technical issues or risks as needed. Travel up to 5% to support suppliers, manufacturing facilities, customer sites, field investigations, and product validation activities. Qualifications: Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (required). Professional experience: Minimum 3 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment and/or product engineering. 3D modeling/CAD experience desired. Proficiency in Siemens NX is a plus. Experience with SAP ERP/PLM systems is a plus. Experience with industrial rotating equipment is a plus.
