Job Title Environmental Health & Safety Specialist I Job Summary A day in the life: Assist in implementing company environmental safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Responsibilities Maintain Safety Data Sheet Database and chemical inventory. Perform periodic safety inspections. Monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste removal vendors and assist in waste minimization. Collect and compile environmental health and safety metrics. Support ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Support workers’ compensation program and assist with claims management. Recommend corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist. Supports the safety culture for Tandem. Environmental Supports related activities in compliance with ISO 14001 and local regulations. Support ISO 14001 audits; contribute to hazard identification, risk assessment, and control. Help maintain and administer the Tandem Blood Borne Pathogens Program. Support Tandem’s Hazardous Communication Program. Maintain hazardous and non-hazardous waste management and minimization. Perform weekly hazardous waste inspections. Routinely collect and compile environmental metrics (water, energy, waste streams, carbon footprint). Conduct and maintain accurate chemical inventory. Support occupational safety related activities in compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations. Engage and work cooperatively with site employees, supervisors, and managers to meet safety goals and continuously improve safety performance. Support the workers’ compensation program including reporting work-related injuries and illnesses to the carrier. Assist with the development of safety and ergonomics training. Support the Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Perform ergonomic evaluations. Provide safety training records for QSR requirements. Ensure causes and contributing factors are identified and appropriate CAPA are tracked to completion. Maintain accurate health, safety, and accident records. Support the development and maintenance of facility emergency preparedness and response plans; ensure that all affected employees receive training as needed. Assist routine fire drills, government safety inspections, permits, and certifications. Maintain prescription safety glasses and safety footwear programs. Ensure work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements. Other responsibilities as assigned. Work Environment & Schedule Onsite in San Diego, California. Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST. 4 days onsite, 1 day remote. Qualifications Highly effective team player and collaborator. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Positive approach to people and problem solutions with discretion and confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in a related field or equivalent education and experience; coursework or degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene preferred. Holding or working toward a professional safety certification (e.g., CIH, CSP, ASP). Minimum 2 years of health and safety experience in a GMP manufacturing environment. Experience with hazardous waste management and handling is a plus. Compensation & Benefits Base hourly pay range: $28.50–$33.00.
