General Description TJJD provides residential treatment to youth committed to TJJD in a state-operated high-security juvenile correctional facility. Performs senior-level work supervising an assigned dorm’s youth development coaches and overseeing daily operations and programming. Oversees culture, trauma-informed corrections model implementation, and team development. Dorm assignments consider youth age and safe housing assessment, along with staff expertise and certifications. Responsibilities (selected) Understand and promote the department and agency vision and direction; set goals for staff performance aligned with mission and values. Provide coaching to staff; review cameras for safety and development; train and evaluate staff and develop Senior Coach roles. Review overhead and body-worn cameras to ensure safety and adherence to Texas Model principles; ensure policy compliance; address youth and staff conduct at the lowest level. Participate in staff selection; establish and maintain a positive dorm culture; foster trust and resolve issues; act as a calming agent in escalations. Communicate directives with deliberate authority; disseminate information from leadership timely. Ensure required trainings; maintain presence on the dorm; model TBRI principles; engage in TBRI-based activities with youth and staff. Provide oversight, coaching, and feedback on Texas Model engagement; plan, schedule, and supervise dorm activities and nurture groups. Ensure weekly leadership meetings; provide technical assistance and direction to coaches; empower staff in learning and applying TBRI principles. Ensure compliance with laws, rules, policies, procedures, and safety standards; monitor staff behavior for unspoken needs; foster felt safety. Lead youth and staff meetings; coordinate with case managers, psychologists, and other staff; analyze data to improve programs and operations. Lead crisis response, incident follow-ups, and appropriate use of force training; ensure physical safety and incident reporting standards. Coordinate transfers, transports, and emergency responses; maintain youth safety and proper headcounts; ensure facilities and dorms are clean and compliant. Represent the dorm in meetings; liaise with compliance officers and facility administrators; collaborate with program staff and external agencies. Supervise coaches, ensure adequate staffing during shortages and emergencies; provide support during facility crises. Works with service providers and treatment program staff; serves as campus shift administrator on a rotation basis. May require 40+ hour weeks, on-call duties, and travel. Proactively promotes Texas Model goals; coordinates policy changes; collaborates with trainers to identify training needs and ensure timely completion of training. Monitors safety measures, dorm placements, headcounts, incident reports, suicide risk screenings, and contraband searches; intervenes during emergencies; provides first aid as needed. Reviews youth health, safety, and dorm cleanliness; collaborates with maintenance and risk management to ensure standards; participates in compliance activities with TJJD policies and PREA standards. Cooperates with supervisors and facility administrators to meet objectives; communicates dorm operations and trends; recommends improvements. Ensures youth service team meetings are held and participates in staff and special meetings; acts as dorm liaison with compliance officers and administrators. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two years of full-time experience in residential, treatment, or correctional settings (juveniles or adults), with at least one year in a supervisory or senior-level role; or High School diploma/equivalent with six years of such experience and at least one year in a supervisory/lead role. Experience must involve duties such as assessments, case plans, service development, referrals, and counseling. OR Equivalent substitutions apply as described in the original posting, including military supervisory experience and education substitutions. Note: degree or course hours must be from an accredited institution. Required Valid driver’s license. Certification as a Texas Model Champion or ability to obtain within 6 months. Must become a TBRI Practitioner if selected for training. Experience providing services for juveniles in correctional or related programs. Continued Employment Requirements Maintain TJJD use-of-force certification; maintain First Aid/CPR certification; maintain a valid driver’s license; licensure/certification must be maintained or employment may be terminated. Other qualifications include strong communication, knowledge of TJJD programs, adolescent behavior, and leadership abilities.
