As a General Laborer/Paint Prep Technician, you'll play a crucial role in preparing heavy-duty truck spreaders and equipment for painting. This involves cleaning, sanding, masking, and inspecting parts to ensure a high-quality finish by the painters. If you enjoy working with tools and seeing a finished product come together, this hands-on manufacturing role is perfect for you.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare metal parts, assemblies, and truck equipment for painting.
• Sand, grind, and smooth surfaces to remove rust, weld marks, dirt, grease, and imperfections.
• Mask and tape areas that should not be painted.
• Clean parts using solvents, degreasers, and other cleaning equipment.
• Inspect surfaces to ensure they meet quality standards before entering the paint booth.
• Move materials and components using hoists, carts, pallet jacks, or forklifts when authorized.
• Work closely with painters and production team members to maintain workflow.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Essential Skills:

• Experience with manufacturing processes and general labor.
• Knowledge of production, deburring, coating, and assembly.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to interpret blueprints.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to spot defects or contaminants.
• Competence in following coating specifications and visual standards.
• Basic measurement skills such as using tape measures or gauges.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience with prep and paint finishing, including powder and wet paint systems.
• Ability to perform acid wash and de-bluing on stainless steel parts.
• Experience with operating and maintaining paint booths, ovens, and related equipment.

Work Environment:

This position is for the 2nd shift, from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, with the potential for up to 10-hour shifts and 5-hour shifts on Saturdays as needed. Most work weeks range from 50-56 hours. The role is based in a manufacturing plant with designated paint or powder coating booths. The environment may be noisy, with sounds from compressors, conveyors, and ventilation systems. It can be warm or hot, especially near curing ovens. Ventilation systems are used, but there may still be exposure to fine powder particles or fumes. The job requires frequent standing, bending, lifting, and reaching, often for extended periods, and involves lifting parts or racks weighing up to 50 lbs or more. Handling metal parts may involve sharp edges or require careful attention.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lindenwood, IL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $18.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
