Job Description

Transportation staff will arrive at the unit with the transport vehicle (i.e., stretcher or wheelchair) specified at the time of request, stop at the Nursing station to retrieve the chart and/or card, report to the patient room, greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, introduce themselves to the parents, patient, and nursing staff as appropriate. Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport the patient to the appointment. Bodies of deceased patients will be transported to the Morgue by transport personnel.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc. Must be able to read and write English.

Work Schedule

Standard hours: 32 Work days: Friday-Monday Shift start/end times: 11:00pm-7:30am

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
