Senior Culture Reporter

We are seeking an experienced, San Francisco-based Senior Culture Reporter to cover the intersection of technology, business, culture, and society in Silicon Valley. This reporter will uncover the people, trends, and stories shaping one of the world's leading innovation hubs. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of breaking exclusive stories and producing original reporting on the personalities, ideas, and developments influencing the technology landscape. Success in this role requires exceptional reporting and sourcing skills, strong news judgment, creativity, and the ability to consistently deliver compelling, high-impact journalism under deadline. Responsibilities Break exclusive stories and produce timely reporting on the intersection of technology, wealth, culture, influence, and society. Identify emerging trends and develop original enterprise reporting that distinguishes our coverage from competitors. Build and maintain a robust network of founders, executives, venture capitalists, investors, entrepreneurs, cultural figures, publicists, and industry insiders. Conduct interviews with influential leaders and rising voices across the technology ecosystem. Cover the personalities, social dynamics, events, and communities shaping Silicon Valley beyond traditional business news. Monitor legal filings, public records, regulatory actions, and other primary sources to uncover original reporting opportunities. Attend conferences, industry gatherings, product launches, and exclusive events to cultivate sources and identify story leads. Collaborate closely with editors, photographers, videographers, graphics, and audience teams to produce engaging multimedia journalism. Use audience analytics and digital performance insights to inform coverage while maintaining strong editorial judgment. Think strategically about the daily news cycle and contribute to broader coverage of major technology and cultural developments. Qualifications 8–10+ years of reporting experience at a major digital, national, or breaking news organization. Demonstrated success breaking exclusive news and developing high-impact enterprise stories. Deep knowledge of Silicon Valley, the technology industry, venture capital, AI, startups, and the individuals shaping the innovation economy. Extensive network of industry contacts, including founders, executives, investors, communications professionals, and other key sources. Strong understanding of the intersection of technology, wealth, politics, entertainment, luxury, philanthropy, and modern culture. Experience obtaining, analyzing, and reporting from court records, public documents, regulatory filings, and other investigative sources. Outstanding reporting, interviewing, and writing skills with exceptional attention to accuracy and speed. Comfortable appearing on camera, participating in podcasts, live interviews, and multimedia storytelling. Familiarity with audience analytics, SEO, and digital publishing best practices. Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving newsroom and adapt quickly to breaking news. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as news and live events require. Preferred Qualifications Experience reporting on AI, venture capital, billionaires, luxury lifestyles, private wealth, philanthropy, or influential communities. Proven ability to translate complex business and technology topics into engaging stories for a broad audience. Existing relationships with influential figures throughout the Bay Area technology ecosystem.
