Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate (advanced preferred), STABLE Must-Have: Must have 3 years of experience in Labor and Delivery. Must be comfortable with first-time travelers. Must be able to titrate drips, including Pitocin and Magnesium. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery specialty. The unit has 7 Labor and Delivery beds, 12 postpartum beds, and 8 surgical beds. One dedicated OR for C-sections and two GYN surgical ORs are available. There are three triage beds averaging 17 patients per month. Annually, the unit sees approximately 643 births. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:1-2 in Labor and Delivery and 1:2-3 in postpartum couplets. Common diagnoses include obstetric cases, antepartum, and postpartum care. The unit accepts patients 23 weeks and older and occasionally higher risk patients. Experience with magnesium sulfate and preeclampsia management is necessary. Nurses will manage postpartum vaginal and C-section deliveries and perform tasks such as hysterectomies and bladder repairs. The charge nurse will take an assignment and participate in deliveries to perform APGARS. An OB scrub tech is scheduled Monday through Friday, along with a unit clerk and occasional nursing students. Nurses are expected to have skills in scrubbing during procedures. OB and Neonatology providers are available on-call 24/7. Anesthesia services are also in-house 24/7. Registered Nurses will be required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed. Remote telemetry monitoring is used, and nurses should be able to read strips in specific recovery areas. The electronic fetal monitoring system is utilized extensively. Shifts are scheduled rotationally in advance, considering sleep schedules. Weekend and holiday requirements apply as needed. Floating to various units is expected, including pediatric, medical, and surgical units. Surgical scrubs will be provided for all shifts. High patient satisfaction is reported in the department. The radius for candidates is limited to 50 miles.
