Job Description – International Student Success Coordinator, CEAS (2602430) Who We Are The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at Stony Brook University is a world‑class professional school. The CEAS Undergraduate Student Office (USO) supports approximately 4,100 undergraduate students in our thirteen undergraduate degree programs, offering both academic and student affairs services from the point of interest through graduation and beyond. The CEAS USO upholds the mission to support future change‑makers by providing holistic support and services, including expert personalized degree planning, proactive advising initiatives, peer mentoring, hosting annual events and traditions, and advising and supporting student organizations and leaders. With a collaborative team‑based approach, the CEAS USO empowers our students and demonstrates a commitment to supporting a diverse student body. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One year of full‑time experience working with students in an academic setting. Highly proficient in word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic messaging, and internet applications. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or a related discipline. Experience in academic advising and working with undergraduates. Experience working with an engineering student population and/or knowledge of engineering disciplines. Experience interacting with a diverse student population, including international students. Experience coordinating programs and/or events. Experience teaching student‑development courses, facilitating workshops, or leading presentations. Brief Description of Duties The CEAS International Student Success Coordinator works with F‑1 undergraduate students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and coordinates efforts that support their academic and personal success. Responsibilities include providing high‑quality proactive academic advising, developing realistic academic road‑maps to graduation, helping students navigate the University, referring students to other advising departments, and connecting them to campus support resources. The advisor assists with retention tracking, reporting, and outreach, and actively participates in orientation and registration for international freshmen and transfer students. The role involves planning events, developing and implementing advising strategies for students in academic jeopardy, and building connections with faculty, staff, and student constituents. The incumbent works independently and as part of a collaborative team, demonstrating strong organizational and time‑management skills and exceptional attention to detail. Academic Advising Provide high‑quality, proactive and timely advising to CEAS F‑1 students. Advising occurs in individual and group settings and includes regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements and policies/procedures. Help students develop meaningful educational plans that align with career and life goals, including course selection and interpretation of institutional requirements. Program Coordination Evaluate student records and degree audits each semester for the assigned cohort, using data and analytics to identify intervention areas. Work closely with Visa and Immigration Services to stay current on F‑1 policies, and assist in training CEAS staff on policy implications. Coordinate with CEAS Undergraduate Program Coordinators on visa policy integration with degree plans. Serve on relevant committees, meet with stakeholders, and provide updates and reports to CEAS staff. Complete international forms and paperwork in consultation with faculty and staff. Provide instruction for new student seminars each semester on cohort‑targeted sections. Work with campus partners to identify unique challenges faced by CEAS international students and develop workshops on topics such as academic success strategies, career development (e.g., resume building, networking), and cultural competency. Design, implement, and evaluate opening‑week activities in January and August for incoming CEAS F‑1 students. Orientation and Registration Coordinate with the Office of Global Affairs to provide training materials for incoming international CEAS students. Host virtual information sessions and conduct proactive outreach to help incoming F‑1 students, including those in the Intensive English Center, progress through pre‑registration. Conduct one‑on‑one and group registration sessions, applying programmatic requirements to recommend courses and evaluate transfer courses. Coordinate evaluation of international transfer courses with respective departments. Divisional Support Participate in large‑scale CEAS events and traditions, including CEAS Convocation. Represent CEAS at various University programs and events such as admissions open houses and admitted‑students events. Provide support for other CEAS Undergraduate Student Office initiatives that build community, engagement, and retention. Other Duties or Projects As assigned, consistent with rank and department mission. Special Notes This is a full‑time appointment. FLSA exempt position, not eligible for overtime provisions. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain exemption. In addition to base salary, the position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
