Role Overview

We are looking for an energetic and self‑starting Corporate or Commercial Counsel to lead our legal team. You will be part of a collaborative, innovative team working on projects that will change the future of mobility. You must be a team player, capable of working independently in a fast‑paced environment, proactive, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Location & Hybrid Work

This role is hybrid from our Boston office. It requires two in‑office days each week, ideally Tuesday and Thursday.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Legal team and cross‑functional business teams to strategize, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial and technology agreements in support of day‑to‑day business and strategic transactions.
• Advise on matters including technology development agreements, supply agreements, software licenses, and business partnership agreements.
• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements to support Motional’s global procurement organization.
• Provide legal counsel and support for general corporate matters including policies, procedures, and corporate filings.
• Manage the legal team’s day‑to‑day operations, including oversight of Commercial and IP matters.
• Board management: attend Board meetings, own Board minutes, and own materials requiring Board written consent; advise on governance documents as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in commercial contracting and legal counsel for commercial transactions.
• 8+ years of relevant legal experience.
• JD degree with a strong academic record.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience handling commercial contract disputes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and outside counsel.
• Willingness to work across time zones.
• Flexibility to work on a broad range of legal matters.
• Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within agreed timeframes.
• Self‑motivated; able to work independently and with others to identify high‑quality solutions.
• Comfortable with domestic and international travel as needed.

Bonus Points (Not required)

• Experience in autonomous vehicle, automotive, ride‑hailing, trucking fleets, electronics‑focused or safety‑critical technologies.
• Working knowledge of privacy and/or cybersecurity legal issues.
• Strong managerial skills to oversee paralegals and assist in implementing company‑wide projects (e.g., records management).

Salary Range

$199,000 USD – $274,000 USD (base salary only; may include bonus or equity).
