Job Title: Registered Nurse First Assistant Profession: RNFA Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 14 Weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience in orthopedics, robotics, neuro, and gynecology Description: Unit Notes: There are 6 suites but only 5 are in use. The average number of cases per day is 15. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. Common cases include orthopedics such as total knees, hips, and shoulders; knee and shoulder scopes; and total shoulder arthroplasties. In urology, the procedures include cystoscopies, ESWLs, TURPs, penile prosthesis, orchiectomies, and open prostates. In gynecology, there are many hysterectomies, D&Cs, slings, robotic hysterectomies, and GYN oncology procedures. Neurosurgery involves cases such as ortho spine procedures, brain tumors, craniotomies, subdural hematomas, transsphenoidal tumors, and VP shunts. Experience in hands, podiatry, DaVinci robotics, vascular procedures, and general surgery including open, laparoscopic, and robotics is also required. ENT cases involve tonsillectomies, adenoidectomies, pediatric ENT, bariatrics, and eye surgeries. Experience in scrubbing is required. There is no charge nurse assignment unless the unit is short-staffed. OR techs are present in the operating room. The charting system used is Cerner. Shifts and scheduling allow for collaboration with the manager on block scheduling. Shifts typically start at 7 AM but may vary based on operational needs. Weekend and call requirements will vary based on rotation and can involve call hours from the end of shifts until the beginning of the next day. Call may occur as frequently as every other weekend and two weekdays on average. RNFAs may float between campuses if necessary. Scrubs are provided for staff. Unit-specific orientation will be conducted. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
