Litigation Associate

Our client, a Michigan civil litigation firm with more than 50 years of history and one of the largest trial practices in the state, is hiring a Litigation Associate for its Troy office. This is a true courtroom role. Every attorney at the firm tries cases, and associates take depositions and argue motions early instead of waiting years behind the scenes. Why this role stands out No billable hour requirement. The expectation is a normal workweek of around 40 hours. Base salary of $110,000 to $150,000, with flexibility above the range for the right candidate Hands‑on litigation from day one: taking and defending depositions, motion hearings, and trial work Open to attorneys from plaintiff or defense backgrounds, in any practice area Genuine path to partnership About the firm Our client handles everything from straightforward disputes to complex multi‑state litigation on behalf of businesses, insurance companies, governmental entities, and individuals, with several clients served on a national level. The firm runs a boutique‑style, low‑overhead operation without rigid practice group silos, so associates build well‑rounded litigation skills across commercial and business disputes, product liability, insurance coverage and defense, employment litigation, malpractice defense, and other civil liability matters. The culture is collaborative and deliberately not overly rigid, with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants working closely together on case strategy. What you'll do Manage a litigation‑focused caseload with mentorship from senior attorneys Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal memoranda Take and defend depositions Appear in court for motion hearings, conferences, and trials Advise clients on legal rights, risks, and strategy, and participate in mediations and settlement negotiations Assist with case evaluation and reporting to clients and insurers What they're looking for 1-5 years of litigation experience (plaintiff or defense; any practice area) J.D. from an accredited law school and Michigan bar admission Ability to manage civil litigation matters independently and appear in court Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills Effective negotiation skills for mediations and settlement discussions Organized, deadline‑driven, and collaborative Compensation and benefits $110,000 to $150,000 base salary depending on experience, with room above the range for standout candidates Year‑end bonus program Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) Clear track to partnership for associates #J-18808-Ljbffr Five Star Placements
