Closures Systems Design EngineerAs a Closures Systems Design Engineer, you will be responsible for conceiving, architecting, designing, and engineering the dynamic exterior systems of Tesla vehicles. You will work alongside pioneering Designers and Engineers through all stages of the product design cycle: from initial sketch and clay modeling, through architecture and design, and finally to validation and product launch. You will be part of the team that creates and executes some of the most notable hallmarks of Tesla design.ResponsibilitiesServe as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team to support automotive body and closure system development for the Tesla vehicle product lineConceptualize, design, engineer and launch Closures Systems components for CIW, Mechanisms/Electro-Mechanisms, Sealing and Glazing product linesAchieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weightEstablish system level architecture and functionality based on market research, design feasibility and prototypingParticipate in the iterative process with the Tesla design and styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form, function and quality.Support manufacturing processes and material selections to achieve world class execution of automotive exterior craftsmanship and fit and finishOptimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessmentsInterpret/develop Tolerance Analysis, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results and integrate feedback into product designsManage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/ production build eventsRequirementsDegree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experiencePassion for cutting edge product design and innovationMinimum of two years industry experience working in consumer product design or related fieldProficiency in 3D modeling utilizing CATIA V5/V6 or similar CAD softwareKnowledge of design for manufacturing principles of various commoditiesStrong understanding of engineering principles, mechanics of materials and the ability to think out of the boxExperience working with cutting edge manufacturing technologies preferred.Expertise with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) during design, validation and/or launch of products preferredKnowledge of the development of specifications, DFMEAs, DVP&R's and other technical documents preferredCompensation & BenefitsBenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deductionFamily-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefitsDental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contributionCompany Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSAHealthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefitsCompany paid Basic Life, AD&DShort-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period)Employee Assistance ProgramSick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid HolidaysBack-up childcare and parenting support resourcesVoluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insuranceWeight Loss and Tobacco Cessation ProgramsTesla Babies programCommuter benefitsEmployee discounts and perks programExpected Compensation $91,600 - $164,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
