Hometown Recruiting is partnering with a growing North Carolina family law firm seeking an experienced Senior Family Law Attorney who brings both strong litigation skills and a genuine passion for mentoring junior attorneys. This is not a role for someone who wants to step away from practicing law. We are looking for an attorney who still enjoys the strategy, complexity, and advocacy of family law—but also finds satisfaction in sharing what they have learned along the way. The Opportunity You will handle sophisticated family law matters while serving as an experienced resource for developing attorneys on the team. Your practice may include: Complex divorce and separation matters Child custody and child support Alimony and post-separation support Domestic violence matters Negotiation, mediation, and settlement strategy Contested hearings and trials Complex financial and high-conflict family law cases You will have responsibility for your own matters while also helping junior attorneys strengthen their legal judgement, case strategy, client communication, and courtroom skills. The Mentorship Piece Matters Being an excellent attorney and being an excellent mentor are not always the same thing. We are looking for someone who enjoys doing both. You should be comfortable allowing junior attorneys to ask questions, talk through strategy, learn from difficult cases, and develop confidence in their own abilities. Mentorship may include: Reviewing case strategy and identifying potential issues Providing guidance on complex family law matters Reviewing pleadings and legal work Helping attorneys prepare for hearings, mediation, and trial Sharing practical courtroom experience Coaching attorneys through challenging client situations Providing constructive feedback that helps attorneys grow Modeling professionalism, preparation, and sound legal judgement The goal is not to create attorneys who practice exactly like you. It is to help good attorneys become great attorneys. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will bring significant North Carolina family law experience and a strong understanding of practicing in Wake, Johnston, Chatham, and surrounding counties. You should also bring: Active North Carolina law license in good standing Significant family law litigation experience Experience handling complex and contested family law matters Strong courtroom, negotiation, and mediation skills Familiarity with local court procedures and practices throughout the Triangle and surrounding counties Strong legal writing and case-management skills Confidence managing matters independently Sound judgement when navigating complex legal and client situations A collaborative approach to working with attorneys and support staff A genuine interest in mentoring and developing less‑experienced attorneys Most importantly, you should still enjoy family law. You understand that behind every pleading, hearing, and negotiation is a person trying to determine what comes next for their family.
