Position Overview

This position serves as the senior technical lead for Windows Endpoint engineering, automation, security, and lifecycle management within Academic Technologies. The role is responsible for the architecture, deployment, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of Windows endpoint systems serving faculty, staff, student, classroom, laboratory, and research computing environments. The position currently supports approximately 3,300 managed Windows endpoints and is responsible for expanding management and security oversight into currently unmanaged systems.

As a secondary responsibility, the position provides administration, support, and lifecycle management of Unix/Linux endpoint systems used for research, scientific instrumentation, specialized academic computing, and laboratory operations. This position functions as a subject matter expert for endpoint technologies and is responsible for solving complex procedural, operational, and technical challenges.

The position collaborates with university and system IT staff, researchers, faculty, departmental staff, and vendors to ensure endpoint services are secure, reliable, compliant, and aligned with university objectives. This individual develops and implements endpoint management strategies, automation solutions, and operational standards that improve service quality, reduce operational overhead, enhance security, and support the university's teaching, research, and administrative missions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and six years of related computing experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced knowledge of Windows endpoint administration and enterprise endpoint management.
Working knowledge of Unix/Linux endpoint administration and lifecycle management.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Intune, MECM/SCCM, Windows Autopilot, Active Directory, and Microsoft Entra ID.
Strong PowerShell scripting, Microsoft Graph, Azure Automation, and process automation skills.
Knowledge of application deployment, operating system deployment, endpoint security, vulnerability management, patch management, privilege management, and compliance frameworks.
Ability to manage large-scale endpoint environments while maintaining endpoint health, security, availability, and compliance.
Ability to develop and implement endpoint automation, modernization, and service improvement initiatives.
Ability to analyze operational and security data to support data-driven decision-making.
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and serve as a senior escalation resource.
Ability to develop technical documentation, standards, procedures, and knowledge resources.
Ability to train, mentor, and cross-train technical staff.
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and project management skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Enterprise Windows endpoint management experience supporting large-scale endpoint environments.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Intune, MECM/SCCM, Windows Autopilot, Microsoft Entra ID, and endpoint lifecycle management.
Experience administering Active Directory, Organizational Units (OUs), security groups, and identity management services.
Advanced PowerShell scripting, Azure Automation, and endpoint process automation experience.
Experience developing endpoint remediation, compliance, and configuration management solutions.
Experience administering Unix/Linux workstation and endpoint environments.
Experience supporting research computing, laboratory systems, scientific instrumentation, or specialized academic technology environments.
Experience implementing endpoint security controls, privilege management solutions, vulnerability remediation programs, and compliance initiatives.
Experience developing operational dashboards, reporting solutions, and performance metrics.
Experience leading technical projects and utilizing project management methodologies, including service lifecycle and RACI frameworks.
Experience mentoring, supervising, or developing technical staff.
Experience in higher education IT service delivery.
Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate.
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).

Job Duties

• Administer and maintain Academic Technologies Windows endpoints and provide secondary administration and support for Unix/Linux endpoint systems. 
• Manage endpoint lifecycle services, including deployment, configuration, application management, operating system management, patching, security, and compliance. 
• Administer endpoint management technologies including Intune, MECM/SCCM, Windows Autopilot, Active Directory, and Microsoft Entra ID. 
• Develop and maintain automation solutions utilizing PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Azure Automation, and related technologies. 
• Monitor endpoint health, vulnerabilities, security risks, and compliance status and coordinate remediation activities. 
• Manage endpoint identity, privilege, and access controls. 
• Develop and implement endpoint management strategies, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
• Serve as the senior escalation resource for complex endpoint and automation issues. 
• Collaborate with university and system IT staff, vendors, faculty, researchers, and other stakeholders to support endpoint services. 
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, service metrics, and knowledge resources. 
• Train, mentor, and cross-train technical staff to improve organizational capability and continuity. 
• Research, evaluate, test, and implement new endpoint technologies and management capabilities that support university objectives.
