Accountant III (S03189)

Overview Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time Accountant III at the Central Services location in Rockville, Maryland. The work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This is a Non-Bargaining, Exempt, Grade 29 position. This position is eligible for telework 2 days a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit. The position involves auditing, analyzing, maintaining, and verifying fiscal records and reports, preparing financial audit reports, and reconciling general ledger accounts with minimal supervision. Contacts include staff and administrators across the organization, external governmental entities, and auditors to ensure proper preparation and reporting of accounting activities, the administration of grants and contracts, and compliance with GAAP, GASB, and Grant Uniform Guidance. Responsibilities Prepare financial statements and footnote support, quarterly reports, and required regulatory reports from governmental entities. Apply accounting principles to complex annual entries for financial statement accuracy; liaise with auditors for supporting documentation and audit requests. Analyze and interpret discrepancies in accounts, financial documents, data entries, and reports; make corrections and submit process recommendations. Investigate complex accounting discrepancies and develop reports for leadership. Recommend, test, and implement systematic and process updates. Conduct variance and financial analysis of general ledger accounts. Respond to inquiries from college units, auditors, vendors, and financial institutions; search account records and transaction files for information. May provide direction to lower-level accountants and colleagues. Maintain ongoing education in GAAP, GASB, and other financial best practices; attend conferences or training as deemed appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Five years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience demonstrating advanced level knowledge in areas such as general ledger, budget formulation, and grants administration. Thorough knowledge of GAAP; strong analytical skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, macros, logic functions). Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team. The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. Compensation and Benefits Hiring Range: $72,455 - $94,203 per year. Initial salary placement falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary is $115,951 per year.
