Job Title: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit

Description:
Department: CVU
Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Eligible candidates must not be full time, part time, or PRN with any associated facilities.
Driver's license is required at submission and will be used to determine eligibility.
Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care.
Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract.
RNs must pass an exam during orientation.
This exam is open book and focuses on skills learned.
Candidates are given all necessary resources to pass.
A score of 90% is required to pass; failure to do so will result in termination.
The unit has 18 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours.
Common diagnoses/types of patients include those who require intermediate care and downgraded patients.
The unit heavily supports cardiac programs.
Experience with titrating drips is required.
Common titratable or set rate drips include Amiodarone, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, and Cardizem.
A charge nurse is present on each shift, but typically does not take an assignment.
The unit has patient care techs with a ratio of 1:18.
There is a hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7.
Cardiology is on call after hours.
Respiratory Therapy is present in-house 24/7.
Equipment on the unit includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula.
RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips.
Remote tele techs and tele hardwired capabilities are available.
Shifts are scheduled by management, with no block or self-scheduling.
Weekend requirements are every other weekend.
Floating requirements include floating to all same level and lower levels of acuity.
Scrub color for the unit is navy blue.
Unit-specific orientation is tailored to needs and experience.
RTO must be provided upfront.
Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.
Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
The charting system used is EPIC.
BSN is not required.
A trauma level of 1 is indicated.
Care setting is acute.
Division is nursing.
Shift notes are for 12-hour night shifts.
Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
