Service TechnicianThe Service Technician assembles, disassembles, diagnoses, and repairs large drilling and foundation piling equipment, as well as rental fleet and heavy construction machinery. This role works with complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems, performs preventive maintenance, and completes detailed service documentation while operating in both a climate-controlled shop and field environments.Responsibilities:Assemble and disassemble components and accessories on large drilling equipment and foundation piling equipment, including hydraulic cylinders, hoses, lines, pumps, controls, diesel engines, undercarriage assemblies, transmissions, torque-converters, final drives, operator compartments and ROPS assemblies, drilling buckets, augers, core barrels, ground engaging tools, wheels and brake assemblies, and structural components.Assemble and disassemble components on rental fleet equipment, including hydraulic cylinders, hoses, lines, pumps, motors, and controls.Perform thorough diagnostic testing of mechanical systems to isolate and identify potential problems, including repeated and follow-up diagnostics when necessary.Complete repairs and preventive maintenance (P.M.s) on drilling equipment and pile driving equipment within required timeframes.Safely and efficiently assemble and disassemble drilling equipment for inspections and repairs, ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards.Machine and fabricate steel components for drilling and piling equipment using mechanics hand tools and power-driven tools.Operate a variety of equipment and tools, including forklift trucks, overhead cranes, power grinders, heavy-duty air tools, hydraulic torque multipliers, welding, cutting and burning tools, and all types of heavy construction equipment, sometimes in very tight spaces.Write detailed service reports documenting work performed, diagnostic findings, and repair recommendations.Look up parts, prepare and complete parts order requisitions, and manage related service paperwork accurately.Complete check-in and check-out sheets for rental equipment to document condition, usage, and any required service.Clean and wash equipment to maintain professional appearance and ensure proper inspection and maintenance conditions.Perform minor repairs at jobsite locations as needed, including on-road service calls as a road technician when required.Notify the Service Manager or appropriate supervisor immediately when suspected customer-caused damage is identified.Complete quality control service tags when inspecting rental equipment to ensure all units meet operational and safety standards.Interpret and use blueprints and schematics to perform installations, troubleshooting, and repairs.Follow all safety procedures and best practices when working with heavy equipment, electrical systems, hydraulics, and high-pressure tools.Essential Skills:Hands-on experience working on heavy construction equipment, with emphasis on electronics, CAN-bus wiring, hydraulics, power trains, and diesel engines.Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to assemble, disassemble, and repair complex mechanical and hydraulic systems.Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.Demonstrated experience in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using systematic troubleshooting methods.Ability to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on drilling equipment, pile driving equipment, and rental fleet machinery.Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools commonly used in heavy equipment service and fabrication.Experience with heavy equipment such as ground support equipment and brands including CAT and Bauer, or similar.Capability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for construction and mechanical systems.Competence in operating forklifts, overhead cranes, heavy-duty air tools, hydraulic torque multipliers, and related shop equipment.Ability to complete accurate service reports, parts lookups, and parts order requisitions.Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.Comfort working on construction and heavy equipment in both shop and field environments.Additional Skills & Qualifications:Experience servicing drilling and foundation piling equipment is highly beneficial.Experience working with rental fleet equipment, including check-in/check-out processes and quality control inspections.Familiarity with climate-controlled shop operations as well as on-the-road service work.Experience using welding, cutting, and burning tools for fabrication and repair of steel components.Ability to work in tight spaces and around large machinery while maintaining safe work practices.Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, service tags, and parts requisitions.Comfort working both as a shop technician and as a road technician, depending on business needs.General construction industry experience, particularly with heavy equipment service and repair.Capability to perform minor field
