Now hiring lateral Public Safety Dispatchers! If you are an experienced Public Safety Dispatcher in California, consider applying. This position is eligible for the City's Hiring Bonus Program. Candidates may qualify for a $35,000 hiring bonus, to be paid in 3 installments: $15,000 at hire, $10,000 at year 1 anniversary, and $10,000 at year 2 anniversary. Those participating in the Hiring Bonus Program are expected to make a 3-year commitment to the City of Madera. Please refer to the Hiring Bonus Program policy document published on the City's website for details. Additionally, candidates demonstrating sufficient work experience may be placed at the top step of the assigned salary range if approved by the City Manager. Annual salary is equivalent to $60,453 - $77,160 based on 84-hour pay period. Public Safety Dispatchers work 84 hours per pay period, with 72 hours at straight time and 8 hours at time and one-half each pay period. This position is eligible for education and certificate incentive pay. Under general supervision and according to established procedures, receives emergency and non-emergency requests for law enforcement services and dispatches via radio, telephone and other communications media; provides telecommunications support and incident coordination for field units; performs other related duties as required.

The Public Safety Dispatcher II is the journey level class in the Public Safety Dispatcher class series. Public Safety Dispatchers are expected to perform the full range and scope of dispatching duties including maintaining field communications with public safety personnel with minimal guidance and supervision. Work shifts rotate and mandatory overtime may be required.

Minimum qualifications include three (3) years of full-time work experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher with a law enforcement or public safety agency, a high school diploma or equivalent, possession of a POST Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate; out-of-state candidates may submit their state's equivalent to a California P.O.S.T Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate at application but must obtain a Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate from P.O.S.T. within one (1) year of appointment, possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license, and completion of DOJ training for full access operator within three (3) months of appointment.
