Job Description

• Develop detailed physical substation layouts and design drawings.
• Design equipment arrangements, grounding, fencing, structures, conduit, cable routing, and foundations.
• Prepare plan, elevation, section, and detail drawings.
• Develop bills of material and equipment schedules.
• Interpret electrical one-lines, specifications, and engineering calculations.
• Coordinate designs with electrical, civil, structural, and protection/control disciplines.
• Review vendor drawings and incorporate approved equipment information.
• Perform design reviews and quality checks.
• Support project schedules, estimates, and technical documentation.
• Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure designs comply with client standards, NESC, NEC, and applicable industry requirements.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Senior Physical Substation Designer should have:

• 7+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Strong knowledge of utility substation layouts and equipment.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Experience with 69kV-500kV substations preferred.
• Understanding of grounding, bus arrangements, steel structures, foundations, conduit, and cable systems.
• Ability to read electrical one-lines and engineering drawings.
• Experience working with utility standards and design criteria.
• Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
