We are seeking a skilled Trailer Mechanic responsible for fixing trailers through fabrication, repairs, and maintenance. This role involves electrical repairs, rewiring of trailers, MIG or Stick welding on aluminum material, and working with ABS on compressors. The position requires fixing compressors, repairing side sheets of trailers, and replacing brakes and tires. The use of computers is essential for documenting, performing repairs, and conducting inspections. Over the course of a year, this role will transition into a Lead/Foreman position, necessitating the ability to teach, train, and manage technicians in the future.

Responsibilities

• Perform fabrication, repairs, and maintenance on trailers.
• Conduct electrical repairs and rewiring of trailers.
• Perform MIG or Stick welding on aluminum materials.
• Work with ABS systems on compressors.
• Fix compressors and repair side sheets of trailers.
• Replace brakes and tires.
• Utilize computers for documentation, repairs, and inspections.
• Train and manage technicians as the role transitions into a Lead/Foreman position.

• Experience as a Trailer Technician in a smaller/job shop type truck company.
• Proficiency in ABS systems.
• Welding skills, specifically on aluminum materials.
• Troubleshooting skills for trailer fabrication and repair.

• Foreman or leadership experience is a plus.
• Mechanical skills, including knowledge of gas, ASE, refrigeration, and truck transmissions.

Work Environment

Work in a truck shop equipped with 4 bays for trucks. Be prepared to move in and out of the building as trucks arrive, and be ready for all types of weather conditions. The dress code includes a uniform and steel-toed boots. The position is 1st shift, working from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility to start at 8 AM if needed, totaling 40 hours per week.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portage, IN.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Portage,IN.
