Job Description

Located within the VA Augusta Health Care System's Mental Health Service, this position is part of the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MH RRTP). The Senior Social Worker operates as a clinical mental health provider, serving as a key member of an interdisciplinary team that includes psychiatry, nursing, peer specialists, and rehabilitation staff. The role is above full performance level and practices independently under general supervision. The incumbent is expected to provide crisis intervention within the residential environment, including rapid clinical triage and coordination with emergency resources as needed.

Major Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Provide individualized care management for a specified caseload of Veterans, ensuring continuity of care and improved health outcomes
• Conducts advanced biopsychosocial assessments and comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for Veterans with complex mental health, substance use, and psychosocial rehabilitation needs.
• Delivers specialized, evidence-based psychotherapy (individual and group), including CBT, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care.
• Develops, implements, and updates individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans.
• Provides psychoeducation, skill-building, and recovery-oriented interventions to support functional improvement and community integration.
• Coordinates care and leads clinical discussions, contributing to case formulation, treatment planning, and discharge/aftercare coordination.
• Conducts and documents suicide and violence risk assessments, provides crisis intervention, and advises on risk mitigation strategies.
• Participates in program development, quality improvement, and curriculum development for residential therapeutic programming.
• Completes timely, accurate documentation in accordance with VA and accreditation standards.
• Ensures compliance with privacy, computer security, infection control, and environmental safety policies.
• Provides care appropriate to the age, developmental, and cultural needs of Veterans served.
• Supports customer service standards and handles conflict constructively.

Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday (including some weekends)

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
