Data Entry Clerks (2 Positions)

Location: Capitol Hill, Washington, DC
Appointment Term: 1 year, with the possibility of extension
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. citizenship required

We are seeking two detail-oriented and organized Data Entry Clerks to support a Federal Agency on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. These positions will provide essential administrative and data entry support to a payroll and benefits operations team during a period of high-volume document processing and personnel transitions.

The selected candidates will be responsible for reviewing, processing, validating, and entering payroll and personnel documentation into the Lawson Payroll System. Documents may include new hire actions, salary adjustments, terminations, tax withholding changes, and employee benefits updates.

The Data Entry Clerks will also assist with researching and resolving payroll-related discrepancies, organizing documentation, and supporting permanent staff to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and personnel actions.

This is a non-supervisory position requiring a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Review and process paperwork received by the payroll and benefits operations team.
• Enter personnel actions, including new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, and other employment-related changes, into the Lawson Payroll System.
• Process documentation associated with regular and off-cycle payroll cycles.
• Review and enter monthly student loan paperwork and related payroll deductions.
• Update employee names, addresses, and federal tax withholding information, including W-4 changes, in the payroll system.
• Establish new health insurance and life insurance deductions for eligible employees.
• Verify, research, and validate payroll and personnel documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Work closely with payroll counseling staff to identify and resolve documentation discrepancies.
• Research and assist with resolving payroll issues identified after payroll processing.
• Sort, organize, file, and maintain high volumes of payroll and personnel documentation.
• Assist permanent staff with research, administrative support, and follow-up on outstanding paperwork.
• Respond to a high volume of calls and assist with the corresponding influx of documentation.
• Handle sensitive employee and payroll information in accordance with applicable confidentiality requirements.
• Perform other related data entry and administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
• At least one year of experience working in a payroll processing environment.
• Experience with the Lawson Payroll System preferred.
• At least two years of experience using Microsoft Office applications.
• U.S. citizenship required.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with payroll staff and other team members.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently while contributing effectively to a team.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, conduct research, and follow through on outstanding issues.
