Lane Community College's Adult Basic & Secondary Education Department is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty to teach Basic Skills Development, GED Preparation, and/or College Preparation.
  • Beyond the required education and experience, instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.
  • This is an application pool posting for 2026-2027, starting in Spring 2026.
  • Positions may be available at the following Lane locations: Main Campus, Downtown Campus, Cottage Grove, Florence, Springfield and in corrections environments (Lane County Jail), however the primary location will be at the Main and Downtown Campuses in Eugene. Online courses may also be possible.

Required Qualifications


Required Education:
  • Master's degree in Education, Teaching, Adult Education, TESOL/TEFL, or Special Education, or related field AND either of the following:
    • A minimum of 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in mathematics.
    • A teaching license with an endorsement in an area relevant to mathematics instruction.
      • Degrees and credits need to be from a regionally accredited institution.
Required Experience:
  • Two (2) years secondary, special education, or adult education experience teaching basic skills or life skills.
AND
  • One (1) year experience teaching basic math or life skills math, OR two (2) years secondary, special education, or adult education experience teaching developmental level math.
Licensure or Certification Requirements


Professional development in the Oregon Adult College and Career Readiness Standards and use of CASAS data upon employment within ninety (90) days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications


Preferred Education
  • Completion of Oregon Adult College & Career Readiness Standards (OACCRS) Orientation and subsequent training modules.
  • Completion of similar Adult College & Career Readiness standards training from a different U.S. state.
Preferred Experience
  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) teaching adults in a community college setting.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Teaching adults or youth with learning disabilities.
    • Family or workplace literacy.
  • Experience working with multi-level learners.
  • Experience articulating to and/or coordinating with work or educational settings, community agencies, or programs related to student advancement and success.

Position Purpose:


The purpose of this position is to work collaboratively with a vibrant team of adult educators in order to teach Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED and GED preparation, and College Preparation classes in mathematics skills for adult students, age 16 and older, to help them meet their educational and career goals.

Essential Functions:

Support student learning through activities that include:
  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
  • Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified in the College Operations Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students
  • Other duties as assigned
Curriculum Delivery
  • Provide high-quality classroom instruction
  • Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
  • Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
  • Confer with students on course materials
  • Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats
Online Teaching and Student Support
  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries
  • Ensure that all materials meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online

Division Functions
  • Instruction in pre-GED, GED, and developmental college mathematics subject areas
  • Courses assigned may be taught in a variety of delivery modalities including, but not limited to, online, hybrid Zoom, hybrid in-person, in-person, live streaming, and hyflex; ongoing professional development in technology-assisted delivery is expected
  • Plan lessons and implement curriculum appropriate to the needs of adult learners and according to Oregon Adult College and Career Readiness Standards (OACCRS)
  • Co-develop curriculum and align instruction with the criteria and skill levels established by the department, the federal government, the state of Oregon, the CASAS assessment system, GED content areas, bridge courses to post-secondary education, including Career Pathways
  • Implement a variety of delivery methods including: directed study, distance learning, technology, tutoring, and other strategies of sufficient intensity to help learners make learning gains and meet their educational goals
  • Adapt options and strategies for managing learning objectives within a multi-level or multi-subject class
  • Provide intake, orientation, placement and progress assessment for students
  • Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, and ensure the timely submission of reports
  • Help students access support services, college and employment resources
  • Continually evaluate and assess student achievement, of clearly identified learning outcomes through appropriate assessment tools/methods and actively utilize results to inform improvements at a program and course level.
Supervision Statement:


Faculty report to a Division Dean and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college: Lane Vision, Mission, Values .

Physical Demands/Working Environment:


This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.
