Academy Accountants will have a primary responsibility in either the Payable or Receivable roles but will be cross trained to provide additional support in either function when needed.Duties and Responsibilities:Review, code and approve all Academy invoicesReview, code and approve all credit card transactions in ConcurEnter all credit card transactions into Financial Edge monthlyPrepare the intercompany reconciliationsGain proficiency with Concur and provide support for Academy staffAdminister the book deposit processReconcile Financial Edge with Raiser's Edge monthlyWork with Great Hearts Arizona to reconcile the pledges receivable account monthlyMaintain and prepare any necessary entries for all balance sheet accounts including:Accrued accounts payableAccrued payrollAccrued performance payBook deposit reconciliationDeferred revenue (including senior trip)DebtResponsible for the monthly close process; ensuring accuracy and timelinessReconcile and prepare intercompany entry (rebillings)Responsible for all Academy lease agreements (including recording short term and long-term liabilities, recording revenue and managing the sublease agreements)Assist with annual financial audits including schedule preparation and interaction with auditors.Monitor cash balances at academies.Provide excellent customer service; respond to inquiries and research questions as they arise.Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies and procedures.Ensure accounting practices comply with generally accepted accounting principles.Maintain financial files in accordance with standard retention requirementsOther duties as needed.Required/Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field at minimum.Required/Preferred Experience: Prefer 2+ years of accounting/finance work experience. Experience in education preferredRequired/Preferred Skills:Commitment to the philosophy and mission of Great Hearts.Superior written and verbal communication skills; oriented towards detail, thoroughness, and accuracy.Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting system preferred.Solid understanding of accounting and related activities.Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members, PSO members and Academy staff.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; QuickBooks experience a plus.Provide excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
