Senior Embedded Systems Engineer

Senior Embedded Systems EngineerBuild the Software Platform Behind the VehicleHypercraft is developing a new generation of electric Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) for defense and commercial applications. Our vehicles are designed around a modern software-defined architecture that separates reusable platform technologies from vehicle-specific functionality, allowing new capabilities to be developed and deployed significantly faster than traditional vehicle programs. At the center of that architecture is Carbon, Hypercraft's Software Defined Vehicle ecosystem. Carbon combines centralized vehicle computing, embedded software, reusable hardware, engineering tools, standardized interfaces, and application infrastructure into a common platform that powers every Hypercraft vehicle. As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you'll help build the embedded platform that everything else depends on.About the RoleWe're looking for an experienced embedded software engineer with strong C development experience who enjoys building platforms rather than applications. You'll develop RTOS software, hardware abstraction layers, board support packages, device drivers, and platform services that form the foundation of Hypercraft's software-defined vehicles. You'll work across embedded Linux, networking, and distributed systems while collaborating closely with hardware, controls, and electrical engineers to build reliable, maintainable embedded platforms for next-generation vehicles. What You'll BuildRTOS infrastructure and safety-critical softwareEmbedded Linux platform servicesHardware abstraction layers (HALs), BSPs, and device driversVehicle networking (Ethernet, CAN, and IPC)Diagnostics, secure boot, and software update systemsCore software infrastructure used across every Hypercraft vehicleResponsibilitiesDesign and develop real-time embedded software for vehicle control and platform infrastructure.Develop RTOS applications, platform services, HALs, BSPs, and device drivers.Build and maintain embedded networking, middleware, diagnostics, and secure software update capabilities.Bring up new hardware, integrate peripherals, and debug complex embedded systems.Optimize deterministic performance, reliability, and resource utilization across embedded platforms.Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software engineers to enable new vehicle capabilities and support prototype development, testing, and field deployments.Experience in Several of These AreasReal-time operating systems (RTOS)Embedded C/C++BSP, HAL, and device driver developmentARM-based embedded processors (e.g., NXP)Ethernet, CAN, and IPCEmbedded LinuxBootloaders and secure bootMiddleware and communication frameworksEmbedded debugging (JTAG, GDB, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)Safety-critical or high-reliability softwareMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline8+ years developing embedded softwareStrong C/C++Strong Linux experienceExperience with RTOS developmentExperience developing safety-critical softwareExperience bringing up embedded hardwareExperience in Several of These AreasRTOSEmbedded LinuxYoctoDockerC/C++RustPythonCAN / J1939Automotive Ethernet (100/1000BASE-T1)ARMNXP S32 Automotive PlatformBSP developmentDevice driversSecure BootOTA updatesDistributed systemsISO 26262 / functional safetyCybersecurityNo candidate is expected to have experience in every area.Backgrounds That Translate WellRoboticsAutomotiveAerospaceDefenseIndustrial automationAutonomous systemsEmbedded networkingEdge computingYou'll Probably Enjoy This Role If...You enjoy building software platforms. You think in systems rather than applications. You like understanding hardware. You enjoy debugging difficult problems. You want to work where software and hardware meet. You enjoy building infrastructure that other engineers depend on.Why HypercraftAt Hypercraft, you'll build the embedded software that powers our vehicles, not just a single ECU. You'll develop RTOS software, low-level C, device drivers, networking, and platform infrastructure while working closely with hardware and prototype vehicles from the beginning.
