Shift Lead (FULL TIME)

Shift Lead – Paramus, New Jersey Full‑time, B4, Non‑Exempt. Reports to Practice Manager. Job Summary The Shift Lead provides leadership and veterinary support across all shifts, ensuring that the hospital always has on‑site leadership to support associates and clients. The role combines a limited amount of leadership duties (≈20%) with the majority of paraprofessional duties (≈80%) such as client service, patient care, administrative tasks, and financial management. Responsibilities Lead and mentor the paraprofessional team, ensuring the highest quality care and customer service. Assist the Practice Manager with scheduling, training, and supervision of staff. Coordinate client flow, education, and documentation in the computer system. Perform veterinary assistant functions as authorized, including preparation for procedures, monitoring patients, and assisting with surgery. Handle the financial aspects of the hospital—opening/closing registers, processing invoices and payments, and maintaining accurate balances. Maintain a clean, sterile, and safe work environment, following all safety protocols. Communicate effectively with associates, clients, hospital leadership, and Central Team Support. Identify bottlenecks in operations and recommend process improvements. Serve as a point of escalation for client issues, invoice adjustments, and exceptions. Other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager. Qualifications Associate’s degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred. At least two years of experience in a healthcare or veterinary setting; six months at Banfield preferred. Prior supervisory or training experience is desirable. Medical background with knowledge of veterinary terminology or related healthcare field. Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a high‑volume environment. Comfortable with animals and able to handle physical demands up to 50lb.
