Paramedic – Bakersfield, CA Hall Ambulance Service, Inc. has served the Kern County community for over 50 years. Opportunity for extra shifts with double time on weekends and more. This posting is for 12‑hour shifts in Metro Bakersfield. Rural station openings are available on 24‑hour shifts in blocks of 2 shifts (48 hours at a time) in West and North Kern County. Qualifications National or state paramedic license. Valid driver’s license with an insurable record. Minimum 20 years of age at start of work. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Compassionate care for patients in the community. Key Responsibilities Respond to medical emergencies, assess illnesses and injuries, and administer basic to advanced emergency rescue and paramedical care. Manage patients during transport, prepare patients for transport to hospital, guide and support EMTs, operate emergency vehicles, complete patient records, and provide compassionate care. Essential Job Functions Arrive at work on time and as scheduled to comply with company and EMS standards. Administer first‑aid and life‑support care in the pre‑hospital setting. Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to prioritize treatment. Perform diagnostic and treatment procedures specified in the State EMS Scope of Practice (splinting, medication administration, stomach suction, intubation, airway management, heart monitoring, etc.). Operate EKGs, external defibrillators, and bag‑valve mask resuscitators in advanced life‑support environments. Observe, record, and report patients’ condition, treatment, and reactions to healthcare providers. Coordinate patient care with emergency medical team members, police, and fire personnel. Communicate with dispatchers and treatment center personnel to provide information and receive further instructions. Prepare patients for transport in compliance with transport regulations and protocols. Inspect emergency medical equipment and vehicles for serviceability and safety compliance. Complete and transfer patient care information as per procedures, safeguarding sensitive data. Provide comfort and reassurance to patients and families. Operate emergency vehicles safely in accordance with state law and company protocols. Training & Education High school diploma or GED. Completion of a recognized paramedic training program. Valid and current State of California EMT‑P certification in good standing; Kern County certification may be obtained post‑offer. Valid and current Class C California driver’s license. Insurable by Hall Ambulance Service, Inc. driver’s insurance policy; minimum age 20 years. Valid and current Ambulance Driver Certification and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (post‑offer). Valid and current CPR card. Additional Qualifications Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with diverse teams and customers. Highly dependable, available for all assigned shifts and locations. Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. Computer competency with reporting programs and patient record completion. Deliver outstanding customer service to internal and external customers. Perform advanced paramedical care per established protocols. React calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Flexible and adaptable to changing environments. Knowledge of emergency medical transport procedures, facilities, and equipment. Team orientation and professional conduct at all times. Courteous, decisive, and capable of providing excellent patient care under stress. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Lift objects up to 75 pounds. Stand and walk for long periods.
