Job Description

Technologist works independently performing routine, emergent, and specialized procedures with responsibility for protocols, patient care, and magnet safety.

Receives and reviews requests from physicians and other health care providers for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations of patients.

Determines the condition(s) at issue and the procedures and equipment necessary to best meet the needs of the individual case.

Receives and positions patient for examination.

Explains procedures and actions to allay fears and secure maximum cooperation of patients, family members, and non-MRI staff.

Retrieves lab results and calculates glomerular filtration rate to ensure patients meet the criteria for gadolinium based contrast use.

Notifies Radiologist if further consent must be obtained for patients with renal failure.

Conducts research on implants and devices to ensure safety of patients undergoing MRI procedures.

Selects, designs or customizes, adjusts and operates the MRI equipment in the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) Military Health System.

Conducts examinations, adjusting technique and equipment to best present the medically significant aspects found if unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered.

Extends and modifies procedure to insure full and accurate information as to findings and patient condition.
