Senior Power Systems Engineer - Modeling & Analytics

Salary: $144,381 - 245,448 per year Requirements:

• We need a candidate with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering, power engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• We are looking for someone with 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering principles, including transmission and distribution modeling, short circuit and power flow studies, arc flash hazard calculations, voltage imbalance analysis, and/or thermal ampacity ratings.
• We require 5+ years of experience working for an electric utility, such as an investor-owned utility, municipal utility, or electric cooperative.
• Preferred qualifications include people management and mentoring experience.
• Preferred qualifications also include experience overseeing and reviewing others work for quality and providing constructive feedback.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations such as IEEE, ANSI, NERC, and FERC is preferred.
• We value experience using Python to automate analyses in power systems software.
• Strong planning and communication skills, including the ability to manage assignments and raise schedule or budget risks, are preferred.
• We prefer candidates who are committed to ongoing learning and becoming an expert in the tools and technologies they support.
• Proficiency with software used for engineering modeling, automation, and spreadsheet-based analysis is preferred.

• We lead a small, skilled team focused on power systems modeling and analytics for utility clients.
• We mentor and train less experienced engineers in power engineering theories and practices.
• We manage projects by forecasting, tracking hours, building budgets, monitoring milestones, scheduling meetings, and delegating work.
• We engage prospective clients to showcase our expertise and help win new business.
• We develop scopes of work, project schedules, and budget estimates.
• We participate in weekly client meetings and provide project status updates.
• We create, revise, and maintain transmission short-circuit models using tools such as CAPE and ASPEN.
• We create, revise, and maintain transmission power flow models using tools such as PSSE and PSCAD.
• We create, revise, and maintain distribution system models using tools such as CYME, Synergi, and WindMil.
• We perform arc flash analyses to determine hazard ratings for facilities.
• We analyze transmission line modeling based on LiDAR and 3D models using tools such as PLS-CADD.
• We perform voltage imbalance studies using tools such as PSCAD.
• We calculate thermal ampacity ratings for conductors and equipment in line with standards such as FAC-008, FERC-881, and relevant IEEE requirements.
• We prepare detailed technical reports that summarize analysis findings.
• We develop automation scripts to improve the speed and accuracy of our engineering work using languages such as Python, SQL, and VBA.
