Location: Front Porch of Bowdon, Bowdon, GA

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: $14.00 to $17.00 per hour starting, depending on experience

Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM

ABOUT FRONT PORCH OF BOWDON

Front Porch of Bowdon is a licensed senior living community with 30+ residents. We are one house in Bowdon, not a campus and not part of a chain. The owner is a licensed nurse who works in the building, and the management team is small enough that we know every caregiver by name and know what each of them is good at. That changes the job day to day. When something on your hall is not working, you raise it with someone who has the authority to fix it, and you get an answer. There is no corporate office three states away setting policy for a building they have

never walked through. We are a small business, and decisions here are made by people who have to live with them.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Caregiver works the floor and runs the shift. You carry your own resident assignment and give the same hands-on care as everyone else, and on top of that you make the assignments, cover the breaks, train the new people, make sure the charting and the handoff actually happen, and are the first person anybody comes to when

something goes wrong. You also share a weekend on-call rotation with the other Leads. This is one opening, on second shift. Second shift is when the fewest managers are in the building, which is exactly why the Lead matters more on it.

SCHEDULE

Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

ON-CALL, AND WHAT IT ACTUALLY MEANS

Leads share a weekend on-call rotation. When the phone is yours, you are the person the building calls if something goes wrong over the weekend, and you are the one who sorts out coverage when somebody calls out. If coverage cannot be found and we would drop below our staffing minimum, you are responsible for filling in (compensated at an on-call rate)

On-call carries additional pay on top of your hourly rate. How often the phone comes to you depends on how many Leads are in the rotation, and we are still building that out.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Carry your own resident assignment and provide the same hands-on personal care as every caregiver on the floor, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, incontinence care, transfers, and mobility

- Make hall assignments at the start of the shift and make sure breaks get covered

- Be the first point of contact on shift when something goes wrong, and escalate what needs escalating

- Train and orient new caregivers, and hold the standard when someone is drifting from it

- Make sure charting is complete and the written shift handoff happens before anyone leaves

- Pass medications for your own residents under Proxy Caregiver rules, and own the medication side of the shift, including MAR accuracy, counts, reorders, and catching and reporting errors

- Hold the on-call phone on a weekend rotation with the other Leads, coordinate coverage when someone calls out, and work the shift yourself if coverage cannot be found and we would fall below minimum staffing

- Observe residents for changes in physical condition, behavior, skin integrity, and appetite, and report those changes to the appropriate person

- Answer resident call lights promptly and either resolve the need or escalate it

- Keep resident rooms and common areas clean, safe, and free of hazards

- Support residents living with dementia, including those who are confused, repetitive, or resistant to care

- Follow resident care plans, facility policy, and applicable state regulations

QUALIFICATIONSRequired:

- At least one year of hands-on caregiving experience in assisted living, a personal care home, or a comparable setting

- Willingness to take the on-call phone on a weekend rotation, including coming in to work a shift when coverage cannot be found

- Dependable attendance on a set schedule that includes Saturdays

- Willingness to provide hands-on personal care, including toileting and incontinence care

- Ability to stay calm and respectful with residents who are confused, agitated, or resistant, and to stay steady with coworkers on a hard night

- Ability to stand and walk for the length of a shift and to assist with resident transfers and repositioning

- Ability to read a care plan and to document care clearly in writing

- Ability to pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting

- CPR and Proxy Caregiver training within the first 30 days of hire

Preferred:

- Previous experience as a lead, charge caregiver, or shift supervisor

- Current CNA certification

- Experience working with residents who have dementia or Alzheimer's disease

We can teach you our systems. What we cannot teach is the judgment to notice when

something is off and the willingness to say so out loud.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Employment is contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check and fingerprinting, a negative TB test, current CPR certification (if available at time of hire), proof of eligibility to work in the United States, and completion of our new hire onboarding.
