Job Description
The Building Maintenance Mechanic supports the reliable operation and upkeep of plant and office facilities by performing preventive and corrective maintenance, installing and repairing equipment, and maintaining the overall condition of the building and grounds. This role combines hands-on mechanical, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC tasks with active participation in facility security, safety, and recycling initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the company-wide recycling program by implementing existing procedures and exploring new recycling opportunities to improve waste reduction and sustainability.
- Implement and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Perform repairs on a wide range of equipment and systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Install new equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and applicable codes.
- Perform carpentry work, including repairs, assembly of equipment and fixtures, construction or modification of partitions and furniture, and installation of shelving for plant and office areas.
- Carry out general building maintenance tasks such as drywall repair and painting to keep facilities in good condition.
- Perform all groundskeeping functions, including upkeep of exterior areas to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly property.
- Share 24-hour on-call responsibilities to respond to facility security issues and emergencies such as fire or burglary.
- Make regular daily or nightly rounds of the premises to identify and address problems, abnormalities, or safety concerns.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues and implement effective solutions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned by leadership to support overall facility operations.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or general building maintenance.
- Hands-on experience in building and facilities maintenance, including repair and troubleshooting of facility systems and equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment and building issues.
- Proficiency in drywall repair and painting for interior maintenance and restoration.
- Practical knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, and carpentry work.
- Ability to interpret specifications, convert tables, and perform necessary calculations related to maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with local and state building, electrical, and plumbing codes and the ability to apply them in daily work.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Willingness and ability to share 24-hour on-call responsibilities for facility security and emergency response.
- Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift hours as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with facility-wide recycling or sustainability programs.
- Experience in general groundskeeping and exterior facility maintenance.
- Experience installing equipment in industrial or commercial environments in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Comfort working across multiple trades, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC support.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Detail-oriented approach to safety, compliance, and documentation of maintenance activities.

Work Environment
This role is based in a plant and office setting that includes both indoor and outdoor work. You will work on 1st or 2nd shift, either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with shared 24-hour on-call responsibilities for emergencies. The environment involves working around mechanical equipment, building systems, and HVAC units, as well as performing groundskeeping tasks. You can expect a hands-on setting where you move frequently between different areas of the facility, use a variety of tools and equipment, and perform tasks such as carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and general maintenance. Dress will be appropriate for a maintenance and facilities role, suitable for both indoor and outdoor tasks and compliant with safety requirements.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
