This role focuses on hand finishing, assembling, and testing reusable surgical instrument families that contain extremely intricate and small parts. You will use a combination of hand craftsmanship and machine assistance to fabricate finished medical devices within standard times while maintaining a high level of quality and precision. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, careful attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment on a first-shift schedule (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
Responsibilities
- Prepare and select the appropriate wheels and perform bench operations to polish and finish components to produce the final product.
- Perform rough and fine polishing of all components as needed, including polishing and grinding operations.
- Process instruments to clean and electropolish them as required.
- Receive products, review accompanying paperwork, and stage instruments appropriately for processing.
- Hand finish, assemble, and test reusable surgical instrument families with extremely intricate and small parts that require accurate fitting and alignment of a repetitive nature.
- Identify and prepare parts that do not fit or function properly so they can be reworked or corrected.
- Use microscopes and precision tools to inspect, fit, and align small components to meet quality standards.
- Perform preventive maintenance and equipment upkeep, including replacing worn components as necessary.
- Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, wrenches, and other tools to perform repairs, alignments, and preventive maintenance on machine shop and peripheral equipment.
- Complete work in a safe manner while minimizing scrap and maintaining high quality standards.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement efforts and teamwork to enhance processes, quality, and efficiencies.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, waste reduction, and process improvements.
- Perform special projects and assist in other areas of plant production as needed.
- Follow client principles of safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and innovation in all daily activities.
- Work under general supervision, following instructions and standard procedures while maintaining focus during repetitive tasks.
- Document and handle parts and assemblies in accordance with established procedures and quality requirements.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong math aptitude with the ability to add and subtract decimals accurately.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and prints.
- Ability to use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other precision instruments.
- Working knowledge and use of hand tools and hand and power tools.
- Experience working in a manufacturing facility.
- Experience using microscopes for inspection and assembly of small parts.
- Ability to complete work safely and without generating excessive scrap.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to remain efficient and accurate during repetitive tasks.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple assignments within a production environment.
- Ability to work under general supervision and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions and inspections without losing focus.
- Good eye-hand coordination and the ability to perform fine handwork.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical components.
- Ability to work independently when required while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
- Ability to hand fabricate finished medical devices with machine assistance within standard times while maintaining high quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical school education is preferred.
- Experience in polishing operations is preferred.
- Experience with small or detailed assembly work is preferred.
- Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office are highly preferred.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance and equipment upkeep is beneficial.
- Familiarity with repairs, alignments, and preventive maintenance of machine shop and peripheral equipment is advantageous.

Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility where you will work primarily on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The environment involves regular use of machine shop equipment, peripheral equipment, and precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, wrenches, and other hand and power tools. You will frequently work with microscopes to assemble and inspect very small and intricate components. The role requires standing, performing repetitive motions, and handling fine parts for extended periods while maintaining focus and accuracy. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bristol, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
