Summary About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Nursing, Mixed al/Medical-Surgical Unit adult clinic, at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert nursing care to patients in a medical-surgical environment.
- Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

- Serve as a Clinical/Medical-Surgical Nurse providing patient-centered care, mentoring staff, and supporting unit quality-improvement initiatives.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, detect subtle and critical patient changes, and deliver advanced nursing interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists to adjust care plans, ensuring optimal recovery and patient safety.
- Assess patient conditions, recognizing and interpreting serious or rapidly evolving situations.
- Set up and operate medical equipment including oxygen masks, ambu bags, IV infusion pumps, wall suction, pleurovacs, cardiovascular monitors, a EKG machines, etc.
- Provide ongoing, detailed assessment of patient conditions, reviewing clinical data, noting deviations from norms, and accurately calculating fluid levels and vital signs.
- Administer and monitor therapeutic medications, including pain-relief agents, narcotics, and antibiotics, with strong knowledge of correct dosages and potential side effects.
- Contribute to hospital-wide committees and initiatives, representing the medical-surgical unit and advocating for improvements in nursing practice.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation TIER 1 is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 25 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedule.
- Mission Essential position (required to report during contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather, or emergencies).
- Inclement Weather Essential position.
- Must possess Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification prior to the established entrance-on-duty date.
- Additional requirements may be determined as positions arise and will be communicated during the hiring process if you are selected.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
- Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

- Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
