Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-volume Labor and Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of experience in a facility with over 300 births per month.

Details

• Work in a high-risk Labor and Delivery unit within a hospital setting
• Care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum needs, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks
• Unit includes an obstetrical triage area for patient screening and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
• Patient ratio of 2:1 with an average of 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms
• Double labor assignments occur daily on this fast-paced unit
• Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Floating required as needed within the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
• No call requirements
• Uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR charting/communication systems
• Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
• Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate (AWHONN Advanced and C-EFM in lieu of AWHONN preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required; 3 years preferred
• Experience in a high-volume facility with over 300 births per month required
• Circulate for C-section experience strongly preferred
• Competent in sterile vaginal exams and immediate newborn care
• Experience with labor and delivery management, cardiac monitoring, and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Skilled in antepartum care, triage of obstetrical patients, and IV therapy/phlebotomy
• Epic charting system experience required
• First-time travelers considered, provided they have experience in a similarly high-volume, fast-paced setting

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care across labor, delivery, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum stages
• Perform circulating duties for C-sections and manage infant/neonatal arrest situations as needed
• Work on a unit described as fast-paced and higher acuity than typically expected
• Unit orientation is 24 hours
• Blue scrubs provided
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
• 48-hour contracts may not be realistic given the pace and acuity of the unit
